Connect your finances to Claude, ChatGPT, or any AI agent
Every budgeting app now has an AI assistant locked inside it. We think that is backwards. You already have an assistant you trust and use every day — it should be able to answer questions about your money.
BudgetSmart AI is building a read-only MCP server so your own AI agent can look up your spending, budgets, goals and subscriptions — without you sharing a bank login with anyone, and without giving any assistant the ability to move a dollar.
What you will be able to ask
“What did I actually spend on groceries last month, and is that normal for me?”
Your agent pulls the category total and compares it against your own trailing average — not a generic benchmark.
“Which subscriptions am I still paying for that I have not used?”
Recurring charges get surfaced with amounts and renewal timing, so you can cancel the ones you had forgotten.
“If I keep spending like this, when do I hit my emergency fund goal?”
Goal progress and current run-rate, answered in the assistant you already have open.
How it will work
- 1
Connect from your assistant. Add BudgetSmart AI as an MCP server in Claude, ChatGPT or whatever you use. You will be sent to us to sign in — the assistant never sees your password.
- 2
Choose what it can see. Balances, spending summaries, budgets, goals — each is a separate permission you grant or withhold.
- 3
Just ask. Your assistant answers from your real numbers instead of guessing, and you can revoke the connection at any time.
How we are handling security
Letting an AI near your financial data should make you cautious. It made us cautious, which is why the design starts from what the server will not be able to do.
- Read-only at launch. No tool that moves money, makes a payment, or changes an account. Not restricted by policy — absent from the server entirely.
- No bank credentials, ever. Your banking connection stays where it is. The MCP server reads your BudgetSmart data and has no path to your bank.
- No API keys to paste. Connections use a standard sign-in flow, not a long-lived key copied into a config file on your laptop. Keys in config files are how credentials leak.
- Scoped and revocable. You grant specific permissions, see every connected assistant with its last-used time, and revoke instantly.
- Audited. Every lookup an assistant makes is logged and visible to you.
- Independently reviewed. The sign-in implementation will be reviewed by a third party before launch, not just by us.

Frequently asked questions
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets an AI assistant securely connect to an outside service. Instead of copying and pasting your data into a chat, you grant the assistant permission to look things up. BudgetSmart AI will publish an MCP server so your assistant can answer questions about your finances.
Do I have to give an AI my bank login?
No. You never share bank credentials with us or with the AI assistant. BudgetSmart AI already connects to your accounts through a secure, read-only banking connection, and the MCP server reads from your BudgetSmart data — never from your bank directly.
Can the AI move my money or change my accounts?
No. The MCP server will be read-only at launch. There will be no tool that transfers money, makes a payment, or changes an account. A connected assistant can answer questions; it cannot act on your accounts.
Which AI assistants will work with it?
Any assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol, which includes Claude and ChatGPT among others. Because MCP is an open standard, support grows without us building a separate integration for each one.
Can I see and revoke what I have connected?
Yes. Every connected assistant will be listed in your BudgetSmart AI account with what it can see and when it last used the connection, and you will be able to revoke access in one click. Revocation takes effect immediately.
What can it see?
You choose. Access is granted in separate scopes — account balances, spending summaries, budgets and goals — so you can share summaries without sharing individual transactions.
When will it be available?
We are targeting October 2026. Join the waitlist and we will email you when it is ready. We would rather be late than ship a security-sensitive feature before it has been independently reviewed.
